With a voice that is extremely comfortable below the stave, Andrew Bukenya lends his classically trained bass-infused (seductive) vocals to music ranging from the spiritual depths of jazz and gospel infused melodies, to the giddy heights of pop, cabaret, music theatre and beyond. 

With the  singular musicianship and keyboard wizardry of Jonathan Holmes, (Sydney Spiegeltent/Lola’s Piano Bar), Andrew invites you to dive in and take a light-hearted walk on the dark velvety side of the vocal spectrum.

Andrew Bukenya’s “Bach in Colour” was nothing short of a mesmerizing musical journey that transcended the boundaries of time and genre. As a devoted fan of Andrew’s compositions, attending this show was a dream come true for us.

Having crossed paths with Andrew over 15 years at the SOULFUL HOUSE warehouse parties, it was clear that he was more than just a performer; he was a guiding force, inspiring confidence in DJs like us. Hosting the SUNDAY SANCTUARY Gospel House party together only deepened our appreciation for his diverse musical talents. We knew he could sing, dance, and wear many musical hats, but ‘Bach in Colour’ unveiled a facet of Andrew’s artistry that left us astounded.

From the moment the notes echoed in the venue, it was apparent that ‘Bach in Colour’ was a labor of love for Andrew Bukenya. His ability to infuse contemporary vibrancy into Bach’s timeless classics showcased a profound understanding of the classical repertoire. As friends and music enthusiasts, this performance became a cherished memory, a testament to our shared love for gospel-inspired house sounds and the transformative power of music.

The lineup of singers, includes Ali Aitken, Zohra Bednarz, Jared Lillehagen, Elias Wilson, Meklit Kilbret and Damien Hall, Lanneke Jones, Erin Clare , Jody Houston Sacha Lee Kilgour Atalya Masi, Dion Biasutti Condack, Austin Menso Frankie Bouchier, Jo Brereton, Tom Hallworth added immeasurable depth to Bukenya’s vision. Each vocalist brought a unique voice and interpretation, creating a harmonious blend that resonated with the audience. Their collective synergy with Bukenya was palpable, creating an ethereal atmosphere that left us spellbound.

Special recognition must be given to the unnamed vocalists whose contributions elevated the performance to new heights. Their voices wove seamlessly into Bach’s compositions, creating an emotional tapestry that lingered long after the final note. The visual spectacle of lights and colors added a layer of depth to the auditory experience, showcasing Bukenya’s forward-thinking approach to classical music.

As longtime admirers of Andrew Bukenya’s work, ‘Bach in Colour’ surpassed all expectations. It wasn’t just a concert; it was a celebration of musical artistry, a tribute to Bach’s enduring legacy, and a testament to Bukenya’s brilliance as a composer. This performance will forever be etched in our memories as a transformative and unforgettable musical experience, a testament to the timeless magic of Andrew Bukenya’s craft.”

Local legends OYOBI have come together with SUNDAY SANCTUARY host (& Soul of Sydney crowd favourite) ANDREW BUKENYA for this dope release which has been released on Groove Scooter Records.

Two more unmissable OYOBI cover versions pressed to vinyl and exclusive to this 45. On one side they team up with soul vocalist BEN SEKALI for a gospel-tinged, Black Lives Matter-themed rethink of the overlooked Gap Band & Stevie Wonder tune ‘Someday (We’ll All Be Free)‘.

On the flipside, gregarious and much-loved Sydney singer (& Sunday Sanctuary) host ANDREW BUKENYA – who was one of George Benson’s back-up vocalists when he last played the Sydney Opera House – reciprocates the love Benson showed him on tour by covering the tune that propelled George Benson afresh into the British top-20 back in 1986: ‘Shiver‘.
