Renée Geyer’s past is Australian music history. Her career has spanned four decades and is still going strong. A precocious jazz, blues and soul singer in her late teens; Countdown royalty in her 20s; a string of pop, soul and reggae hits spanning the 70s and 80s; her LA years in the studio with the likes of Stevie Wonder, Sting, Joe Cocker and Chaka Kahn; her 90s renaissance with Paul Kelly. She is a singer, a songwriter, producer, and author.

Her career began around 1971 in Sydney, when a girlfriend took her along to the rehearsal of friends who were forming a band. From there, things began to snowball. Her reputation found its way to America and led to an invitation to record an album in Los Angeles with famed Mowtown producer Frank Wilson. While the Movin’ Along album provided another hit at home, in America ‘Heading in the Right Direction’ created confusion. R&B stations loved the record, but didn’t know what to do when they discovered Geyer was a white Jewish girl from Australia.

For the next few years, Geyer bounced between Australia and America and released albums, which include So Lucky, Difficult Woman and Sweet Life. Her career has never stalled. At the end of 1999, Geyer released her frank life story; Confessions of a Difficult Woman through Harper Collins, and 2003 saw her release the Gold selling (and self produced) album Tenderland.

In 2004 Renée hooked up with Brisbane producer Magoo to co-produce her 21st album Tonight, which has received stunning reviews and was nominated for an ARIA award. And in 2005 Renée was inducted into the ARIA Hall Of Fame; a proud occasion in which she joined the ranks of Australia’s most respected and accomplished musicians.

2007 was to be a busy one for Renée, with work on her 22nd album “…Dedicated” released on EMI in early September and a plethora of select appearances around the country, she remains one of our most enduring and endearing artists.

In 2010 Renée released The Ultimate Collection – covering 4 decades of Soul. Whether in the studio or on stage, this is where Renée Geyer is home and continues to wow audiences with her remarkable voice.

Renée Geyer had started out a sensual blues belter. Now she has evolved into a bona fide music icon – someone to look up to for never having let go of her dreams. This consummate entertainer with a proud body of work still transfixes a room with the power of her song.

Description
Andrew PeP-C Burrows
Singer, Song writer, Musician, dancer, entertainer. My home town is Newcastle N.S.W full of beautiful beaches and awesome people!I started singing and dancing at an early age, but didn’t start pumping it until i was a young teenage.I first started 14yrs ago in the “palais youth venue” breakdancing as a young boy, there i met a guy named DeeJay Mathmatics who taught me the ways of Hip Hop starting with the awesome art of “Breaking”. I then moved on to Mc’ing and Dj’ing etc, under his amazing knowledge and teachings we both grew into different styles and grew as performers…. I started to explore my own flavours and started to grow into who i am. Hip Hop based with a mix of electro, dance, soul, rnb, funk and latin influences. I performed over seas in Mexico for a year dancing and entertaining. What an amazing learning experience, it really helped me appreciate what i have down under!”to be infectious with your energy, for the good or for the bad” Andrew Pep-C Burrows. 2013 I’m proud to be an Australian, my music I love and live. I try and stay positive with my fresh feelings and I try to capture my energy in the hope to infect as many people on this earth as i can! WOOOP WOOOOP

It’s well known that throughout the 20th century, fed up with poor working conditions and racism in their home country, many American jazz musicians chose to leave the US in order to live and work in Europe. What’s less well known is how their music developed and evolved during their time on the continent, and how the experience of being a musician in Europe was to shape their respective lives.

Over the years countless jazz concerts, festivals and recordings featuring American jazz musicians have taken place all over Europe, yet it’s remarkable how few of these musical artifacts have been evaluated by the jazz community. We seek to assess the European experiences of the American jazzmen, with a specific focus on the progressive sounds of modal jazz and the avant garde. We examine the recordings made by those who crossed the Atlantic just to take in a short tour, as well as those who made more frequent trips, and of course those for whom Europe ultimately became their permanent place of residence.

Radical new jazz sounds created as renowned ex-pat American jazzmen mingled with the creme de la creme of their European counterparts. Early developments in world music inspired by trans-global cultural excursions to Asia, Africa and beyond. Exchanges of ideas and a cultural meeting of minds as revolutionary jazz festivals took place behind the Iron Curtain. Advances in rhythm and sound where modal jazz and the prophetic music of John Coltrane merged with European folk traditions. This is Spiritual Jazz – as played by Americans in Europe.
