The Sleepy Bedtime Mix for Young Ones was released on April 22, 2012, under the pseudonym Henry Chinaski, a character from Charles Bukowski’s novels. This mixtape was made available on the Pinchy & Friends website, a platform associated with The Avalanches and directed by Tom Kuntz, who also directed their “Frontier Psychiatrist” video. The mix features a blend of dreamy 60s pop, bossa nova, jazz, and folk, creating a soothing and nostalgic atmosphere.

The mix opens with a clip from Michel Gondry’s film The Science of Sleep, setting a whimsical tone. It includes tracks by Astrud Gilberto, The Free Design, The Four Freshmen, Luiz Bonfá, and The Beach Boys, among others. The selection of songs and their sequencing evoke a sense of calm and introspection, making it a perfect companion for winding down or reflecting on the day’s events.
