UK Soul Jazz – Sooner of Later – Nyah Grace

87500251_819018848603988_8608894420185513984_n

Sooner or Later from Nyah Grace’s debut album titled HONEY-COLOURED which is due out very soon.

Originally from the depths of rural Oregon, Nyah grew up listening to Lauryn Hill, D’Angelo and Estelle, artists whose neo-soul sound echoes the jazzy chord progressions of those early icons she admired, like Billie Holiday.

Nyah wanted to be a singer “but didn’t think it was a rational dream” until her Manager came on-board and introduced her to Steve Chrisanthou, the Grammy, Ivor Novello, BRIT and MOBO nominated producer/songwriter who is best known for his work with Corinne Bailey Rae and Lianne La Havas.

Now residing in the UK, she has found her musical home, and with her debut album “HONEY-COLOURED” Ms Grace with her young band are ready to take the stage. A cool, subtle Neo-soul vibe with delicious hints of jazz is awash with hooks destined to capture ears eager to hear some fresh new sounds.

Sydney musicians tonight pay homage to the legendary, controversial and iconic BEBOP SESSIONS, with Kevin Camrass on sax and Matthew Collins on trumpet accompanied by a rhythm section of Casper Tromp on piano, Hamish Gullick on bass and Philip Lombardo on drums.

She has chosen to share her creative energy across the urban and electronic landscapes, equally comfortable on a soulful lounge rhythm as she is on a seductive dance anthem. While the young songstress is not easily comparable, her broad musical horizons take influence from most genres across the modern musical spectrum. “For Your Ears Only“ the EP captures Thavy at her best and comprises 5 outstanding works which were brought to life with the help of David “Acosta” Atkins ( Resin Dogs, Wolfmother) on production duties. “For Your Ears Only“ is set to broaden the appeal for this young artist with amazing production that is sure to please her listening audience. Thavy’s formative years were anything but easy and whilst permanently altered by her upbringing, she refused to become a product of her environment. Instead, she took a background of hardship and used it to inspire some truly remarkable music that is only now reaching full bloom and catching the attention of the Music Industry and music lovers alike. Born to Cambodian parents, Thavy’s love of music began from a young age (her solo album features “Believe” which she wrote at age 13) and was a passion that she pursued throughout her education, culminating with her completion of a Bachelor of Arts in Music Business/Performance at RMIT University. Today Thavy divides her limited time between her job at a major music organisation and the studio where she has worked with an impressive and broad variety of producers and performance acts. While Thavy enjoys working in the corporate side of the music business, her heart is set on writing, performing and dazzling with her own music.

SYDNEY SOUL & FUNK: Dojo Cuts feat. Roxie Ray – Take From Me (NEW RELEASE)

Sydney soul/funk outfit DOJO CUTS return with a super soulful second album entitled “Take From Me”, once again featuring the sizzling, smoky vocals of Miss Roxie Ray. This much anticipated follow-up to their debut full-length sees the band taking it back to the roots of soul, but at the same time giving a nod to contemporary funk. With the liner notes written by Russ Dewbury (A Night At The Jazz Rooms) and the support of the entire Daptone Records family aka Gabriel Roth, Neal Sugarman and Homer Steinwess, this Aussie outfit prepares for what is without a doubt a significant step forward in the band’s musical journey.

This is the album where all of Dojo Cuts’ experience and hard work reaches its deeply soulful zenith, with mellow moments – such as in “I’d Rather Go Blind”, “I Can Give” and title track “Take From Me”, as well as gritty straight-up funk pieces like “Mamacita”, “Sonny’s Strut” or the Marva Whitney & James Brown classic “What Do I Have To Do”. Add to that some slices of feel-good crossover soul such as in “My Lovin’ Is All About You” and first single “Easy To Come Home”, and the result is a guaranteed instant classic! The secret is out indeed, Dojo Cuts are ready to rock your world!
