EP review:
Spiconic is certainly one of those bands that demonstrate the importance of each member’s contribution. While their primary focus is hip-hop, there are slices of jazz, blues, and soul that can be heard within their compositions as well. It’s a vast tapestry of influences that directly affects the group’s output, giving their selections a richness that’s hard to achieve with just two turntables and a microphone. In the tradition of groups like The Roots, Spiconic is striving to be the next great hip-hop band and this six-song EP can be considered the perfect introduction to their sound.
