NYC ORGAN FUNK SOUL: DLG 3 – Hot Chicken

A new soul funk joint Inspired by New Orleans Friend Chicken ? Yes Please.

Just caught this little instrumental FUNK gem from NYC based organ trio DLG 3 who explore the realms of Funk, Soul & Jazz.

The tune was inspired by my and guitarist John Lynch’s hangs on Frenchmen Street during tour stops in New Orleans. The tune features Jesse Blum of the MisterWives on trumpet, Russ Paladino on sax, and “Organ Monk” Greg Lewis on the B3 organ.

This is a feel good song that everyone needs to hear right now in a feel bad time!

Stay safe & check out more from DLG via links below:

CONCERT: Robert Glasper Experiment, Roy Ayers & DJ Total Eclipse | Sat March 8 Hi-Fi

Robert Glasper Experiment live in concert with very special guests Roy Ayers and DJ Total Eclipse, (X-Ecutioners) will also be on this stellar line up.

2013 Grammy award winners Robert Glasper Experiment are without doubt the greatest jazz fusion band to emerge from the US in the last 20 years and are well on their way to becoming the hottest jazz artists in the world.

After taking out the Grammy for Best R&B album this year for his stunning 2012 album release ‘Black Radio’, Robert Glasper went on to storm the European Summer festival circuit, gracing the stage at a host of Europe’s biggest and best festival events.

Despite still basking in the afterglow of the enormous success Black Radio, Glasper has just released his highly anticipated fifth studio album, ‘Black Radio 2’ and its set to be one of the biggest records of 2013.

Nothing short of a priceless musical artefact, Black Radio 2 embodies a genre-defying masterwork that takes the Black Radio blueprint and builds upon it to even greater heights.

The core remains the Experiment, as astoundingly versatile a band as has ever existed, featuring Robert Glasper on keyboards, Derrick Hodge on bass, Mark Colenburg on drums, and Casey Benjamin on vocoder and saxophone.

Providing the vocals on the album is another jaw-dropping roll call of vocalists including Common, Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy, Brandy, Jill Scott, Dwele, Marsha Ambrosius, Anthony Hamilton, Faith Evans, Norah Jones, Snoop Dogg, Bill Withers, Eric Roberson, Jean Grae, Macy Gray, Jazmine Sullivan, Lupe Fiasco, Luke James, Emeli Sandé, Lalah Hathaway, and Malcolm-Jamal Warner.

Joining Glasper on tour are soul-jazz fusion pioneer Roy Ayers in a unique collaborative performance. In this, his first Australian tour in over 4 years, Ayers presents a unique new live set quite unlike any other that he has delivered in the past. It harkens back to his earliest days, delving deep into the psychedelic jazz roots of his musical legacy, while also rising high on the energy and funky eclecticism of his latter-day aural identity.

Glasper and Ayers have a long history of delivering unique on stage collaborations and this tour promises to be no different. Expect a fusion of new an old, past and present, spirit and soul as Roy Lonnie and Robert explore music in a free form fashion live on stage, together as one.

‘It’s a short list of jazz pianists who have the wherewithal to drop a J Dilla reference into a Thelonious Monk cover, but not many jazz pianists are Robert Glasper.’ – Los Angeles Times

“Superb Herbie Hancockish solos of gracefully twisting long lines, borderline free-jazz, and creative spins” – The Guardian

JAE MOON

Serving up the choice cuts on the ones and twos, The Chop’s family member “RAINE SUPREME”

Raine Supreme has quickly become the go-to DJ for all things Hip Hop, soul and funk. He regularly plays all around Sydney, and has held residencies at the most frequented concert venues, bars & clubs.
His incredibly vast catalogue of music, and innate ability to remember small details about each of the releases, has earned him the title of Mr. Encyclopedia of Music. Already he has shared the stage with some big names including, George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic, Pharoahe Monch, De La Soul, Charlie 2na, Apollo Brown, Def Wish Cast, Dj-JS1 (Rock Steady Crew), Boogie Blind (The X-Ecutioners), Afrika Bambaataa, Dj Suspect, Blak Twang, Dj MK, @peace and many more. As well as being an audio enthusiast, he also extends his love for music into the video realm, both as a solo artist and as apart of his AVDJ duo, NTSC, which sees him team with Sydney visual veteran, VJ Spook. Raine Supreme also throws his promoter hat on, working under the banner of HomeyDontPlayDat, and has been behind some incredible events in Sydney such as the 2013 DMC NSW Finals, Destino @ The Abercrombie, Soul Shaker @ The Newtown Hotel and now THE CHOP

Benny Hinn (Daniel Robertson) began spinnin’ vinyl back in 01′ playing a range of phat funky house and some chunky big assed broken beatz for the masses… Although now only 33, the Hinns has played at some of the finer establishments, parties and festivals around Sydney, Wollongong and the Southcoast, gaining a rep az a bit of a party starter and one with some def skillz, finess and sheer artistry on a pair of 1200′s.

In 01/02′ the House & Breakz movement exploded in his hometown of Wollongong and the Hinn emerged as one Da Gongs leading DJs in this new exciting scene. Largly due to while studying at University, a small collective formed, with a desire to bring decent music to the local area, hence the weekly event night Bustin’ was born. It began as the official uni after-garden party, held in the backroom of the Illawarra hotel, then quickly expanded into a weekly night at the famous Cooneys Tavern, where the guys & a certain little monkey, hosted some of the finest local, national and international talent for some of the best parties the area had ever seen. The night was a 7 year success and those lucky enough to have experienced a Bustin’ party will remember some good shit went down.

The Hinn has also toured with the MOS Label for an Anunal release and has supported many artists such as, The Stanton Warriors, Freq Nasty, Krafty Kuts, A Skillz, Jay Jay, Sneaky Sound System, The Resin Dogs, Katalyst, Koolism, [love] Tattoo, Mark Dynamix, Ajax [RIP], Bang Gang, Goodwill, Alex Taylor, Funktrust, Purple Sneaker DJs + many many more…

The Hinn has also been dipping into a little production here and there with a few little mashes and beats all up on his soundcloud page.

His latest venture has been PLAY BAR. After drawing inspiration from his last stint in Melbourne and meeting his partner & co-owner Sarah, the two worked hard to build, what they hope to be for many years to come, an institution in Surry Hills Sydney.
