The Undisputed “Godfather of Noise” has redefined the art of beat boxing. RAHZEL has perfectly mastered this quintessential musical art form and has emerged as a “true virtuoso”. Rahzel is able to recreate full songs without instrumentation, sing a chorus and provide the musical melody simultaneously and is able to invoke impressions of any sound on a whim… Now that is incredible!
Rahzel does not play an instrument, HE IS THE INSTRUMENT!
Rahzel made his triumphant debut performance at the legendary Showtime at the Apollo. He stunned the crowd with a repertoire that stroked the memory of any true hip hop fan and the world’s toughest audience loved him. Rahzel has since been officially inducted as an “Apollo Legend”. But his legend status doesn’t end there…
Rahzel is best known as a member of hip hop’s cutting edge live band, The Roots, with whom he earned a Grammy Award with. Might we add, Rahzel is the first human beat box to receive such a prestigious award since Bobby Mcferrin. He made his solo debut on the eagerly anticipated, Make the Music 2000, a smorgasbord of almost every music genre featuring Brandford Marsalis, Erykah Badu, Me’Shell N’Degeocello, A Tribe Called Quest, Aaron Hall, The Roots and the legendary Slick Rick. On the album he also has a special tribute to the late Aaliyah, which has become a cult classic throughout the world.
A glance at Rahzel’s musical influences speaks to his appreciation for the art of making music. He draws from the line of Bobby Mcferrin, Al Jarreau, George Benson, Take 6, Zap Mama (7), Doug E. Fresh, the Fat Boys, Biz Markie and Michael Winslow (Police Academy). He explains: “As a vocal percussionist, I want to bridge the gap among various musical genres” and yes, Rahzel has done just that.
Rahzel is no stranger to Australia, having already amazed audiences on many occasions, including his unforgettable sets at the Good Vibrations Festival, Platform Hip Hop Festival, and the numerous, packed out, solo shows he has performed at all over the country. Now it’s time for the Godfather of Noise to return to Australia once again, still ready to show off his amazing vocal talents, once with his right hand man, DJ JS-1 of the Rock Steady Crew, by his side. This time Rahzel is gearing up to play the highly regarded Meredith Music Festival, and will be performing at a few east coast sideshows. Australian fans will once again witness the greatest, most influential, human beatbox to ever walk the planet. The one, the only, Rahzel…
