Massive love for what our good friends at LOW KEY SOURCE are doing for Sydney, strictly for the heads, pushing the finest in left of center soul, hip hop & beyond.

Tonight they bring New Zealand’s powerhouse ELECTRIC WIRE HUSTLE to launch their latest Album ‘The 11th Sky" (Live) with a bit of help from future soul artist Wallace (live band) and DJ DEWIS (Coda Conduct / FBI Radio) and Tom Studdy(Midnight Swim).

New Zealand natives Electric Wire Hustle return with their 3rd studio album ‘The 11th Sky’ delivering one of their best soul driven works to date. Frontman and producer for the band Mara TK describes their new LP as “David Lynch meets Motown” which is due out September 30th.

Electric Wire Hustle’s critically acclaimed self-titled album achieved formidable cult status in 2010 amongst international peers and esteemedpublications, cementing their cult status the world over.

Their sophomore ‘Prevail’ album found support from The New York Times, BBC Radio and Wax Poetics , continuing a track record of critical acclaim. Demand for their live show has seen EWH perform in 18 countries, appearing at festivals such as Glastonbury, Dour, Sonar, Sziget, SXSW, Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide, New York’s CMJ and The Roots Picnic.

‘The 11th Sky’ stays true to their impressive musicality being a culmination of the two previous albums, experimenting with sounds, yet distinctly emotive, moody, optimistic, swirling in thick soul textures, subdued choir-like harmonies and head nodding crisp snares. Mara TK’s butter-like vocals stands out as a dominant instrument on its own, swimming amongst the deep current of capacious sounds, vocally walking hand in hand with the direction of each song.

Notable mention goes to the collaborative production elements from Just Blaze as found on their current single ‘Go Slow’ and Maahuia B-C providing strings on ‘Go Slow’, ‘Troublemakers’ and ‘I Light a Candle’. Maahuia is a string arranger and composer for film, adding a cinematic element to the overall production of the album.

Mara TK reveals the meaning of ‘The 11th Sky’ as “There are 12 skies in Maori mythology and the name is based on the idea of human beings being on the verge of getting our act together and being nice to each other – I really think we can get there eventually; to the 12th sky".
