Blessed with a unique vocal tone that has the ability to cut through the cold and embed itself in the listener’s soul, Sarsha Simone is an exciting artist who is bringing a fresh and yet timeless take on music. The striking chantueuse’s most recent collaboration with French producer’s 20syl & Moar on “Gonna Do Me (20syl Remix)” has had close to 300,000 plays on SoundCloud since it’s release a few months ago. Sarsha has also been featured on Acclaim Magazine, Earmilk, BLACK Magazine, Grazia Italy, Hypetrak and more thanks to her soulful vocals and striking looks. Her solo single “Let’s Dance”, (prod. Marley Cassette) debuted on The Edge 96.1 last month, before being selected by Apple Music for an exclusive position on their The A-List: R&B playlist highlighting the hottest R&B of the moment. The most exciting part of all this is that it is just the beginning for Sarsha Simone as she gets ready to deliver her Vaughan meets West style and sound to the world.

NEW MUSIC: Sydney Funk Powerhouse Gang of Brothers just dropped killer new single ‘One More Round’ |

Our good friends & Sydney FUNK powerhouse ‘Gang of Brother’ just dropped their latest single
‘One More Round’ just in time for spring & the official clip features cameo appearances from a host of our favorite local breakers and dancers too.

Heavy dance-floor funk grooves with a touch of the kind of 90’s new jack swing flavour that always puts a smile on dancer’s faces. We have had this on repeat since Monday & it is already a ‘Gang of Brothers’ favorite for us, so you can be sure it will be on heavy rotation for our gigs over summer.

NEW SYDNEY SOUL MUSIC: Sarsha Simone (20SYL, DOJO CUTS) Drops New Single ‘Let’s Dance’

One of our favorite local singers, SARSHA SIMONE (of DOJO CUTS) drops her new single ‘Lets Dance’ last week and we are seriously feeling the new sound.

“Let’s Dance”the debut solo single from the intriguing Australian singer Sarsha Simone was officially released to digital last week, “Let’s Dance” has been creating buzz since,
Reaching #82 on the Australian iTunes R&B chart after it’s release over the weekend, “Let’s Dance” is one track you won’t want to sleep on as it walks the line between the edginess of electronic styles and the warmth of R&B.

The closest artist comparison would have to be the urban swank styling of Jidenna crossed with electronic favourites Disclosure. Lyrically, “Let’s Dance” contemplates the freedom and happiness people are always looking to outside sources for, when in reality the answer is within them

16441 bFresh on the scene and fresh to our ears comes smooth soulful sensation Thandi Phoenix. With a sound that is equal parts raw and enchanting, this sultry Sydney songstress is set to carve a path for herself as one of Australia’s most promising new female RnB/soul vocalists.

Following collaborations with the likes of Ta-ku, B-Wise and Coin Banks who both featured Thandi on vocal duties for their respective ‘Songs To Break Up To’/’ ‘Heads’ & ‘Tails’ EPs in 2014 – Thandi’s talent was never going to be left untapped for long.

2014 proved to be a successful year in many ways for Thandi, signed on the spot by Melbourne-based management stable Twisted Kids, playing Bluesfest as a guest for Seun & Fela Kuti’s Egypt 80, not to mention playing in between Anthony Hamilton and Angie Stone at this year’s Soulfest – a dream come true. Not one to rest on her laurels, this ambitious young woman has spent the past 18 months crafting her sound; studying music and spending time in writing camps – refining a skill that comes so naturally to the talented singer/songwriter – albeit, not a passion she had always envisioned herself pursuing.

thandi promo pic for featureDuring a visit to Africa early last year, Thandi experienced an epiphany, after which she returned to Australia with a raging fire in her belly – ready to explore other avenues, resulting in a new, improved artist and version of herself.

With a debut solo EP in the pipeline, a string of collaborations with Club Feet, B-Wise and Sid Pattni in the works and a national headline tour supporting US RnB princess Tinashe on the cards, 2015 looks to be the year that will catapult Thandi into the waiting arms of the Australian public – as a sure fire one to watch.

ALPHAMAMA | Soul of Sydney Local Music Profile #013 (June 2015)

Among the vast ocean of mainstream, middle of the road personalities there stands one woman: a fearless creative force who is passionate about music, life and people.

ALPHAMAMA is not your run of the mill singer. She is a forward-thinking, entrepreneurial artist who is dedicated to growing not only her own profile, but also the urban music scene in Australia. Her sound is soulful but hard-hitting, fused with the best of reggae, funk, hip hop and the 90’s flavour she grew up with. All of these elements have been major influences on her stylings along with New Jack Swing, Jazz and World Music!

GIG LIVE ACOUSTIC: Milan & Alex Gibson to play stripped back acoustic gig at PLAY BAR this Thursday

Our recommendation for our dose of live soul and acoustic goodness.

Sydney artist MILAN will be performing a rare acoustic show at the basement of PLAY BAR in Surry Hills with support from ALEX GIBSON and DJ SET from KRYSTEL DIOLA.

Entry is free with music kicking off from 8pm.

It is only over the past two years that 24 year old Milan’s songwriting voice and sound has crystallised. In Mid 2013 (after completing her first two demo’s) Milan signed with Universal Publishing in Australia and has since made numerous trips to the US to work with an array of producers and songwriters. Her Debut EP Glassy Eyes, released in February 2014, was quick to receive industry recognition from radio support (BBC Radio 1), blog support (The Music, Indie Shuffle, Pages Digital), from festivals (Sydney Festival, Fringe Festivals, Soul Fest) as well as performing at the Alicia Keys/John Legend Arena show. Milan was then named the “Next Big Thing” by the Sydney Morning Herald in 2014.

Showcasing her impossible electric guitar runs, her trademark sultry dreamscape voice, effortlessly playing synths & samples via her iPad, Milan also musically directs her live show which Booking Agency New World Artists describe in a word : Hypnotic. When composing her songs Milan (who holds a Diploma in Sound Engineering & Production) also makes the beats, plays the keys, synths, bass, records and mixes and is across the production of each of her songs. With that skill set in mind she still prefers a collaborative process for most of her compositions and has consequently formed great friendships with a plethora of world class producers and songwriters.

From a lyrical perspective, Milan plays her cards close to her chest – her songs draw on life experiences, family relationships and stories from her years of working and growing up in Sydney’s Inner West, but her storytelling is often cryptic and open to interpretation. Topics like love, loss, depression, drugs and addiction weave through her words. Passages of rap-influenced double-time singing, mixed with strong and soulful hooks show the influence of the black music of North America, but her voice is still distinctly Australian.

Currently back in Oz, Milan has been cultivating her song writing and production, but with things bubbling away in the US she has decided to take a huge leap away from her home in Sydney to create her much anticipated debut album and set sail for Los Angeles in 2015.

Alex Gibson has rightly earned the reputation as one of Australia’s hardest working, most talented musical artists.

The Canberra-born performer rocketed to fame after being spotted busking and asked by producers to audition for Season 2 of The Voice in 2013. After a spine-tingling rendition of “Blackbird” he found himself being mentored by internationally-acclaimed artist Seal and progressed through the show to be a Top 12 finalist.

Alex has established a loyal fan base who have embraced his unique vocals and style which he describes as “mix between Folk, Soul, Blues, Jazz and Rock”. He cites Paul Simon, Steve Wonder and The Beatles among his musical influences.

In the time since The Voice Alex has again immersed himself into full promotion and development of his music, embarking on his first ever solo, 8 date tour across Australian cities (September 2013) and more recently a smaller four date tour (April/May 2014). Over the past few years, Alex has also frequently supported numerous touring artists including Diesel, The Black Sorrows, Kate Ceberano, Daryl Braithwaite, Mental as Anything, Deni Hines and Uncle Jed.

Alex is currently writing for his second album to follow up his highly acclaimed 2012 release This is Life. His first LP was launched to a packed house at Sydney’s iconic venue ‘The Basement’ and reached No. 2 on the Australian Singer Songwriter Charts.”
