More Info @ Facebook or get tickets here

Niche Productions is proud to present a night of the freshest raw funk and soul, hitting The Basement on Saturday 21 August with Adelaide’s The Transatlantics and vinyl master Kon from the legendary Kon & Amir.

The Transatlantics are one of Adelaide’s finest exports, forming a few years back and taking inspiration from modern soul artists including Sharon Jones and The Daptone family as well as classic soul labels such as Stax, H…i and Motown. Their sound invokes the grainy warmth of southern American Soul and the rhythmic grunt of classic James Brown-era funk.

One of the finest vinyl trawlers on the planet, Kon of Kon & Amir has been in the game since he was 13 years old and begged his grandmother for his first mixer. At this ripe age, Kon began putting his already impressive vinyl collection to work and went on to meet music making partner Amir at Boston’s Biscuithead Records in 1996 while shopping for breaks.

And for the crate diggers, check this clip from Amoeba Music featuring Kon & Amir, discussing a few Soul, Funk and Boogie 12’s in their collection.

Kon & Amir are legendary crate diggers and DJs from New York. In 1997, they released their first On Track mix, a collection of six albums which feature snippets and breaks found in their crate digging sessions. In 2007, they released the first installment in their Off Track series, Off Track Volume 1 – The Bronx (BBE), which features full-length versions of rare Jazz, Latin, world and disco grooves from the ’70s and 80s. They have also released Off Track Volume 2 – Queens (BBE, 2008), Uncle Junior’s Friday Fish Fry: The Cleaning (Uncle Junior, 2004), and The Kings of Diggin’ (Rapster, 2006) featuring DJ Muro from Japan.

Expect some of this @ The Basment: Randolph Baker – Getting Next To You, from Kon & Amir Off Track Vol III: Brooklyn compilation
