Sure they may not have the profile of Daft Punk (who does?) but Confection’s new release ‘Let’s Fall Back’ is built on precisely the same disco-funk foundations so recently exploited by the French robot-men.

‘Let’s Fall Back’ offers up more of Confection’s trademark dancefloor blueprint: old school R&B swagger, disco nostalgia and moments of unrepentant pop bursting with sweet harmonies. It’s a sound that throws back to Chic and Prelude-era disco. A REAL live original disco creation. The bass and guitar groove lock is second only to Nile and Bernard (except it’s Mikey from Van She and Confection’s own J-Man), and the piano, drums and strings are – yep, all performed beautifully by real players. Furthermore the vocals from Juanita Tippins have GENUINE soul. This isn’t re-edited/sampled NU-disco, this is sho nuff real thang supersoul disco. People aren’t supposed to make records like this anymore!!!!

Confection have flown under the radar for a while with their pure boogie-funk-stylings, but the people in the know are jumping on board – with uber trendy DJ Miguel Campbell heavily sampling ‘I’ve Gotta Thing (4 U)’ on the track ‘Boy’ from his ‘Back In Flight School’ album (on Jamie Jones & Lee Foss’ Hot Creations label).

Campbell (best known for the massive club hits ‘Something Special’ and ‘Baby I Got It’) repays the favour with a smooth and deep nu-disco rework of Let’s Fall Back. Sydney’s Toni Toni Lee’s mix is deeper still, lowdown and bumping, J Connection’s mix is superb modern boogie tip and NYC’s Reeno provides extended remixes in the classic style of 80’s M&M 12" reworks.

‘Let’s Fall Back’ is out now on One Stop Funk Shop

FUNK, DISCO, RAP EDIT: T Ski Valley – Catch The Beat – (DJ OzYBoY 2013 Edit)

Lioness presents Mark De Clive Lowe (Tru Thoughts / LA) Warehouse party.

Lioness proudly presents…

Globe-trotting, beat-making, key-tickling NZ-export Mark de Clive-Lowe (MdCL).

The Auckland native has been based in the musical hotbed of Los Angeles since relocating there after his decade-long stint in London’s underground scene alongside the likes of 4Hero, Benji B and Bugz in the Attic.

His most recent album ‘Renegades’ is released on UK tastemaker label Tru Thoughts and features MdCL in producer mode with collaborators nia andrews, Omar, ‘Suite for Ma Dukes’ arranger Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, legendary percussionist Sheila E, D’angelo’s regular man on bass Pino Palladino and more stellar friends. It’s an album that prompted Okayplayer to appropriately christen MdCL “an underground phenom” and earned his new music hi-rotation worldwide. He’s already a fixture on both coasts of the USA with his monthly resident clubnites in LA and NYC alongside guests ranging from Brainfeeder’s Gaslamp Killer to jazz-crooner Jose James and drummer-extraordinaire Chris Daddy Dave.

MdCL will be coming to Sydney straight off a three week Europe tour and a quick pit stop shows in NYC/NZ. He’s bringing us a unique live show he calls REMIX:LIVE…

“The remix has always been such a fundamental part of club culture – recontextualizing something from what it was to something else completely new. I have vocal accapellas playing on the turntables and then create the beats and music on the fly, building complete remixes in real time as they happen. I’m making the records at the same time as you’re hearing them. Every show has a different vibe and I love sharing that…” – Mark de Clive-Lowe

It’s a one-man live show that has the likes of Masters At Work’s Louie Vega, hip hop legend DJ Spinna and party rocker DJ Karizma in awe – the latter calling MdCL “the illest dude I have ever seen live”. Remixing everything from his own productions to club and soul classics, even the legends aren’t safe. De Clive-Lowe says, “I love taking something everyone knows, even say a Stevie Wonder joint, and giving it a completely different setting that no one would expect or imagine.”

Coming to a dancefloor near you …

SYDNEY HIP HOP: Chance Waters – Maybe Tomorrow Ft Lilian Blue

As of 7pm tonight, Chance Waters will be officially releasing his new single “Maybe Tomorrow”, check the unlisted YouTube link below to have a listen immediately!

Here is what Lewi McKirdy said about the song at Triple J;

“So jaunty and sweet! The charm of the song fully curtains the neg-out theme in the lyrics. I love that! Such a bright spin on a bunch of bad shit. Sunny dispositions fix a lot.”

Please contact me if you would like to be door listed for the Sydney show this Saturday night at the FBi Social.

Following the success of his first single ‘Infinity’, (currently sitting at over 20,000 views on YouTube), Chance has had his head down in the studio and this weekwill release his new track, ‘Maybe Tomorrow’ from his soon to be released album, ‘Infinity’.

Produced by One Above, (The Hilltops) the new single demonstrates Chance’s lyrical potency and his potential to push the typical boundaries of the hip-hop genre with an up-beat tempo, off-beat rhythm, piano-rock influences and live instrumentation.

Following widespread national acclaim under the appellation Phatchance, Sydney hip hop artist Chance Waters is losing the alias and going ‘au naturale’ with his given name. Chance is facing a ride on a wave of aftershock following his previous success that can only further shake up the Australian hip-hop scene, as we know it.

Chance’s debut album INKSTAIN saw the artist claim Featured Artist spots on triple j Unearthed and Music NSW as well as topping charts in AMRAP’s Most Ordered To Air Chart. After sparking a rave of support including The Australian Newspaper labeling him as “an intelligent lyricist and masterful storyteller”, Chance is well on his way to becoming a best-selling artist invigorating “a breath of fresh air” (Rave Mag).

Chance is undeniably cementing his place as a “burgeoning hip-hop star” (Dom Alessio, triple j) and carving the path for Australian hip-hop as he goes.
