Lioness Warehouse Party w/ Kid Sublime (Dopeness Galore, Teppne, Rush Hour) + Inkswell (Adel) – This Saturday – July 26 | Deep House, Garage, Disco

Our good friends over at Lioness will host another legendary warehouse jam featuring underground house don Kid Sublime direct from Amsterdam with local support from Edseven, Inkswell, Fred Tectonic, Henry Compton. Happening tomorrow night in a fresh inner city warehouse space.

BYO party situation with maximum underground vibes, well recommended.
10pm / BYO
Tickets via www.lioness.net.au

Fill the smoke machine and reach for the lazer, Lioness is back for a proper warehouse party.

We are stoked to announce that on Saturday 26th July ‘Kid Sublime’ (Rush Hour/Dopeness Galore) will be joining us in Sydney, all the way from Amsterdam.

Anyone that caught him in 2011 at Mad Racket will be familiar with his deep and soulful selection style. 70’s Disco, US Garage, Detroit Techno and plenty of his own productions twist and turn dancers on a joyful journey.

As a founding member of the Rednose Distrikt collective, his ear for a sample and innovative approach to production can be heard throughout his broad range of releases. From the Deep House series ‘Basement Works’ (Rush Hour) to the soul inspired ‘Basement Soul’ album (Kindred Spirits). He lands in Australia fresh from a Japanese tour to mark the release of his latest album ‘Hot Water Music’ (Teppen).

But that’s not all….

Original Lioness family ‘Inkswel’ (Rush Hour/Hot Shot) is also on the bill, a DJ that holds the torch for those who cannot be pigeon holed.

A flurry of recent releases has seen the hype for Inkswel rise over the last 12 months. His Cloudeaters EP (Hot Shot) topping both Juno and Rush Hour charts and featured as vinyl release of the week by fact Magazine. This will be Inkswels’ last Sydney date before his upcoming European tour that sees him jumping boarders from London, Berlin, Amsterdam, Moscow and beyond.

Lioness residents Edseven, Henry Compton and Fred Tectonic join the dots and fill in the gaps.

About Say Whut?!
After surviving a collision with a tanker truck filled with milk and toxic waste (it was a special truck) when he was just a boy, DJ SayWhut?! was in a coma for 4 years where he dreamt of nothing but cheeseburgers. When he awoke he found that he had the ability to hear lower end frequencies very clearly and could foresee what the next song was going to be chosen (in shuffle mode) on a person’s iPod from 100 yards away. The iPod was then invented 15 years later. This brought on a revelation that he should play music in some form or another. When making fart noises with his armpits wasn’t enough he decided to pick up the headphones and become a DJ.
Cutting his teeth as a breakbeat DJ in Sydney in 2004, DJ SayWhut?! has always been known to play some of the funkiest basslines in breaks – keeping it hard and bouncy yet keeping the people dancing on the floor. With residencies at Broke’n’beats @ Kink and Chinese Laundry, SayWhut?! has played to a wide variety of crowds knocking them senseless to the floor with his barrage of bassline melodies and quick mixing ability. After the breakbeat phenomenon went out of fashion, SayWhut?! looked towards more organic sounds and started playing funk, soul, disco, boogie, hip hop and R&B still staying true to that funky bassline mentality.

Catch DJ Say Whut?! playing some regular residencies around town Ravisis in Bondi, at our Soul of Sydney Block Parties & this weeks ‘History of Hip Hop’ special as part of Sydney Fringe Festival.

HISTORY OF HIP HOP – THURS Sept 12 :

2SER’s popular History of Hip Hop series returns to Sydney Fringe. Stepping back in the ring for bout three, it’s East Coast versus West Coast as 2SER’s own DJ Frenzie (Groove Therapy) and the In The Red crew go up against Raine Supreme and Saywhut.

Monday Disco Mix: Body Music: NYC Disco & Early House Tribute Mix by Phil Toke / Soul Of Sydney

Soul of Sydney Block Party Radio #33: ‘Body Music’ : An excursion in NYC Disco & Early House Vibes mixed by Phil Toke (Our House Sydney) & Soul Of Sydney.

About the Mix:
This is a little Our House winter promo mix from the archives, I think this was the first mix we actually put out, way back in winter 2008 as a couple music heads frustrated not enough DISCO was being played in Sydney.

This one is still a sentimental favorite for us, it features a few personal edits put together just for the mix & some of the NEW YORK DISCO & SOULFUL HOUSE sounds we knew definitely weren’t getting played enough in Sydney.
