Saturday September 21, 2013 will see the laneways of Chippendale emerge into a colourful kaleidoscopic oasis unlike any festival our burgeoning city has ever seen!

Hosted by Chippendale Creative Precinct, and Festival Director and President of Chippendale Creative Precinct, Nicky Ginsberg; this year’s BEAMS Arts Festival will provide a platform for emerging artists and musicians to enthrall, enchant, challenge, and engage you to think beyond spaces ordinary and extraordinary.

With this year’s themes of ‘Revitalisation’ and ‘New World Cities’, we ask the question ‘Is the future a place of wonder?’

To help express these ideas of ‘Revitalisation’ and ‘New World Cities’, we are excited to present audiences with a stellar array of talented musicians and DJ’s who are the epitome of revitalisation, traversing with one foot firmly planted in the present, and the other ready to take flight embracing the strange magnetic future that we each have a hand in shaping.

BEAMS Musical Director and Chippendale resident, John Cawley of Funkdafied has been invited to curate the BEAMS Arts Festival musical acts. Funkdafied is an Event Promotions Company based in Sydney Australia, promoting regular quality events encompassing many genres from Afrobeat, Latin, Disco, Reggae and Hip Hop. At the heart of their passion is their strong focus on Jazz, Rare Groove, Soul & Funk.

We are proud to announce the line-up of musical artists for the festival! Just a bit more Prince Sydney Concert with this 60 Min long BBC 4 Documentary Narrated Trevor Nelson.

He became a global sensation with the release of the Oscar-winning, semi-autobiographical movie Purple Rain in 1984, embarking on an incredible journey of musical self-discovery that continues to this day.

From the psychedelic Around the World in a Day to his masterpiece album Sign O’ the Times and experiments with hip hop and jazz, Prince remains one of most ambitious and prolific songwriters of his generation. He tested the boundaries of taste and decency with explicit sexual lyrics and stage shows during his early career and in the 1990s fought for ownership of his name and control of his music, played out in a public battle with his former label, Warners. Still in demand as one of the most flamboyant live performers around, Prince remains a controversial and elusive creative force – as much a mystery as ever.

Contributors include Revolution guitarist Dez Dickerson, Paisley Park label president Alan Leeds, hip hop legend Chuck D and Prince ‘Mastermind’ and UK soul star Beverley Knight. < Show less
