Tiana Canterbury – Hip Hop’s Hot Stepper

Ms Hennessey Speaks Blog

Tiana 1

In the world of hip hop choreography and dance, the style and moves change as much as the music genre itself. A constant lesson in evolution, hip hop dance is an essential part of what makes the genre a unique and expressive hybrid of movement through song. When it comes to creating those moves, it takes a special and talented individual blessed with the gift of rhythm, form and confidence to create combinations that both inspire and ignite the human form. And nobody ignites the imagination and the form better than Sydney based dancer and choreographer Tiana Canterbury.

Looking back at her evolutionary career in the world of hip hop dance, the South African born powerhouse has been forging her successful career for the last 15 years in the Australian hip hop community. As a dancer, Canterbury has performed in an array of venues from clubs, stage, TV and the…

LIVE AFRO LATIN GOODNESS TONIGHT | The Cactus Channel and The Liberators playing live at 505 (280 Cleveland St Surry Hills)

LIVE AFRO LATIN GOODNESS TONIGHT | The Cactus Channel and The Liberators playing live at 505 (280 Cleveland St Surry Hills)

Info / https://www.facebook.com/events/899856276696821/?ref=ts&fref=ts

The Cactus Channel have been cooling down since releasing their second collection of instrumental fire starters, but as winter comes its time to rub some hands together and de mist the windscreen before heading back into the dankest shed in Melbourne to begin the writing of their next release. They are hitting up two of their favourite spots up North.

The Cactus Channel are consistently turning heads and shifting opinions about what it is to be an instrumental 10 piece band in the era of laptop producers and Kanye. No doubt they will continue to do so with their next release. Joined by afrobeat powerhouse The Liberators (SYD). It promises to be big (huge), don’t oversleep.

The Liberators

Inspired by Afrobeat and American funk, The Liberators are a rock solid outfit typifying the Nigerian Afrobeat sound of 70’s Africa. The Sydney Based 10 piece create a fierce array of super heavy grooves that ensure you are served with some sizzling treats. Continuing on from the success of their self titled debut album (2011), and follow up album ‘Power Struggle’ (2013), The Liberators dedication and commitment has resulted in a positive following within Australia and globally with worldwide radio play.

Lioness Warehouse Party w/ Kid Sublime (Dopeness Galore, Teppne, Rush Hour) + Inkswell (Adel) – This Saturday – July 26 | Deep House, Garage, Disco

Our good friends over at Lioness will host another legendary warehouse jam featuring underground house don Kid Sublime direct from Amsterdam with local support from Edseven, Inkswell, Fred Tectonic, Henry Compton. Happening tomorrow night in a fresh inner city warehouse space.

BYO party situation with maximum underground vibes, well recommended.
10pm / BYO
Tickets via www.lioness.net.au

Fill the smoke machine and reach for the lazer, Lioness is back for a proper warehouse party.

We are stoked to announce that on Saturday 26th July ‘Kid Sublime’ (Rush Hour/Dopeness Galore) will be joining us in Sydney, all the way from Amsterdam.

Anyone that caught him in 2011 at Mad Racket will be familiar with his deep and soulful selection style. 70’s Disco, US Garage, Detroit Techno and plenty of his own productions twist and turn dancers on a joyful journey.

As a founding member of the Rednose Distrikt collective, his ear for a sample and innovative approach to production can be heard throughout his broad range of releases. From the Deep House series ‘Basement Works’ (Rush Hour) to the soul inspired ‘Basement Soul’ album (Kindred Spirits). He lands in Australia fresh from a Japanese tour to mark the release of his latest album ‘Hot Water Music’ (Teppen).

But that’s not all….

Original Lioness family ‘Inkswel’ (Rush Hour/Hot Shot) is also on the bill, a DJ that holds the torch for those who cannot be pigeon holed.

A flurry of recent releases has seen the hype for Inkswel rise over the last 12 months. His Cloudeaters EP (Hot Shot) topping both Juno and Rush Hour charts and featured as vinyl release of the week by fact Magazine. This will be Inkswels’ last Sydney date before his upcoming European tour that sees him jumping boarders from London, Berlin, Amsterdam, Moscow and beyond.

Lioness residents Edseven, Henry Compton and Fred Tectonic join the dots and fill in the gaps.
