Sydney’s Soul collective BEATEN BODIES release ‘The Royal Road’ and announce an east coast tour.
Formed in 2012 to quench a mutual thirst for funk and R&B, their debut EP saw the band touted as a fresh new group to watch. Inspired by the current musical climate and with a growing need to experiment their music has evolved since those early days and now Beaten Bodies occupy a space somewhere between the dank hip hop beats of The Robert Glasper Experiment and the neo soul grooves of Erykah Badu.
‘The Royal Road’ is a giant step forward for the band. With a sound soaked in lush harmony and their own brand of lilting groove, this collection of songs beautifully demonstrates the group’s forward motion and innovative approach to their craft. The new single ‘Monkey Grip’ follows on from ‘Crowns’, a song that received healthy radio play and created a strong demand for the soon-to-be-released final product.
Beaten Bodies have played alongside the likes of Sticky Fingers, Milan, Sex On Toast and Okenyo. Prior to heading out on ’The Royal Road’ tour the band will joing forces with Ngaiire tonight (Thursday May 29) for her Vivid Sydney event at The Basement.
‘The Royal Road’ is available on 09 June 2014 via iTunes,
