D.I.T.C.

One of my craziest record buying experiences EVER happened when the Tower Records in Berkeley called to tell us how they were moving to another location across the street from their current location. While moving they discovered an ENTIRE room full of untouched records dating mainly from the mid 60’s to late 70’s.

Unfortunately they were mostly obscure jazz and soul albums that no one there had heard of, and they had no idea what to do with them. They wanted us to go through these records, tell them what they were worth (price them), and in return we were allowed to purchase ANY album for a dollar.  Skullsnaps. Leon Thomas. The Black Jazz catalog. Random Groove Merchant titles. Some were even still sealed!

To show you exactly how many records we were dealing with, at just a dollar apiece there were still too many records to buy, and I unfortunately had to leave some behind colon open parentheses.

I picked up a copy of Young Holt Unlimited’s “Mellow Dreaming” that day.

and discovered this song

Young Holt Unlimited’s “The Creeper” @ 320

which was sampled by Showbiz for Show & AG’s “Diggin’ in the Crates”

and that’s the story behind my Young Holt Unlimited “Mellow Dreaming” record.
