SOUL OF SYDNEY BLOCK PARTY | SPIRIT OF HOUSE VIDEOS:
‘Live For The Moment’ is the debut album from Random Soul, the Australian house duo of Yogi & Husky. The duo have made a big impression in recent years with releases for labels including Strictly Rhythm, Bargrooves, Salted and Large. The album, released on their own label, Random Soul Recordings, presents an effortless journey through 15 tracks that cement their position amongst the most established names in Deep and Soulful House circles, while also showcasing their talent in creating Soul, Jazz and Funk gems.
‘Live For The Moment’ incorporates everything from floating vocals and laid-back soulful grooves riddled with live instrumentation, through to bumping, funky club tracks. The album also highlights their talent as songwriters with a string of captivating vocals featuring strong hooks, often performed by Yogi. Six vocal collaborators include well-known West Coast USA artists Chuck Love and Joshua Heath, as well as Natalie Conway, Kristen Pearson, Kyla Sexton and Louis Hale. All are close friends of Yogi & Husky, and the chemistry of the relationships shines through: “Working with friends always makes the job seem more fun too, so doing tracks with people like Joshua Heath and Chuck Love, usually meant more jokes and laughing than ‘work’ per say. We enjoy getting other people in the studio as it creates such a different dynamic”
Listening to these collaborations and the album in full, it’s clear to hear where many of Random Soul’s influences lie, with the house sounds of Miguel Migs, Joey Negro, Grant Nelson and Groove Armada providing a strong focus, alongside funk and soul artists such as Rae & Christian and Smoove & Turrell.
Since 2005, Sydney-based Yogi & Husky have become two of the city’s most well known DJ/Producer exports. Combining their production skills, varied musical talents and their mutual love of Soul, Jazz, Funk, Motown, Disco and everything in-between, they have brought the Random Soul sound alive in clubs, bars and festivals around the world, and delivered hit after hit in house music circles. Their distinct studio sound is typified by Yogi’s keyboards and vocals, and Husky’s jumping bass-lines and driving drums – a sound that has given them a worldwide following and seen them command on-going positions at the top of download store sales charts, while picking up countless licenses of their music to international compilation series’.
The first single taken from the album is ‘Mysterious’ and will feature a Richard Earnshaw remix to be released late January February 2013.

The Mile High Club & Paul Strange presents
OSUNLADE (Yoruba Soul Recordings)
Saturday 9th March
// OSUNLADE
Osunlade is an artist who personifies art. His music as well as his being creates unified melodies manifested with balance, life and wisdom. Hailing from St. Louis Missouri, a place known for pioneering jazz, blues as well, innovative artists like Miles Davis. At age seven Osunlade discovered the piano and the vision of his life’s destiny was born. By the age twelve he found an interest in creating and producing songs of his own, he formed a local band, taught himself several other instruments and studied further the development of his unique sound.
In 1999, Osunlade would embark on what is now his dream come true. The founding of Yoruba Records. Recognized as one of the most important dance music labels worldwide, Yoruba Records is purely a source of music created to elevate the spirit. As the success of the label grew, so did the demand for Osunlade to expand. In 2001 he released his debut album on the respected Soul Jazz Records label. “Paradigm” quickly became on of the biggest house albums that year and dubbed him the messiah of ancestral house music. With the support of dj’s worldwide and his music now introduced to a wider spectrum of listeners, this veteran musician/composer/producer becoming the artist finally achieved balance within.
Although his demand for production and remixes from labels and artists worldwide, his passion is in Yoruba Records maintaining its reputation of its unparalleled quality in music. With its own family of talented producers and artists developing and bridging sound and cultures, the labels’ evolution is endless and bright.

ALTON MILLER
Growing up in the 1970s, Miller soaked up the musical environment surrounding him in the Motor City, taking a particular interest in the sounds of Motown, Philadelphia, Parliament-Funkadelic, and Santana. It was during the early ’80s once the “dance music crazed” Alton became friends with a young Derrick May that he decided to start spinning records, citing Chicago DJs such as Ron Hardy and Frankie Knuckles as prime influences.
By the latter part of the same decade, Miller joined forces with George Baker and Chez Damier to start the Music Institute, a short-lived but legendary Detroit club that has since become near-mythical, thanks to the pioneering techno efforts of figures such as May. Following the demise of The Music Institute, Miller took an interest in Conga drumming in addition to DJing, which led to a period between 1989 and 1991 where he toured the world with his music.
He then joined forces once again with May, first as an employee of the artist’s Transmat Records label, then as Aphrodisiac, the title under which he would begin releasing his music. Besides his EP on Transmat’s sublabel Fragile, he also released his music on Kevin Saunderson’s KMS and a series of EPs on Serious Grooves. By the mid to late ’90s, he had increased his presence in the Detroit area through a number of DJ performances and a stream of stunning twelves. His latest album ‘Light Years Away’ had been critically acclamied by the likes of Osunlade, Atjazz and Boddhi Satva
