Lioness presents Mark De Clive Lowe (Tru Thoughts / LA) Warehouse party.

Lioness proudly presents…

Globe-trotting, beat-making, key-tickling NZ-export Mark de Clive-Lowe (MdCL).

The Auckland native has been based in the musical hotbed of Los Angeles since relocating there after his decade-long stint in London’s underground scene alongside the likes of 4Hero, Benji B and Bugz in the Attic.

His most recent album ‘Renegades’ is released on UK tastemaker label Tru Thoughts and features MdCL in producer mode with collaborators nia andrews, Omar, ‘Suite for Ma Dukes’ arranger Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, legendary percussionist Sheila E, D’angelo’s regular man on bass Pino Palladino and more stellar friends. It’s an album that prompted Okayplayer to appropriately christen MdCL “an underground phenom” and earned his new music hi-rotation worldwide. He’s already a fixture on both coasts of the USA with his monthly resident clubnites in LA and NYC alongside guests ranging from Brainfeeder’s Gaslamp Killer to jazz-crooner Jose James and drummer-extraordinaire Chris Daddy Dave.

MdCL will be coming to Sydney straight off a three week Europe tour and a quick pit stop shows in NYC/NZ. He’s bringing us a unique live show he calls REMIX:LIVE…

“The remix has always been such a fundamental part of club culture – recontextualizing something from what it was to something else completely new. I have vocal accapellas playing on the turntables and then create the beats and music on the fly, building complete remixes in real time as they happen. I’m making the records at the same time as you’re hearing them. Every show has a different vibe and I love sharing that…” – Mark de Clive-Lowe

It’s a one-man live show that has the likes of Masters At Work’s Louie Vega, hip hop legend DJ Spinna and party rocker DJ Karizma in awe – the latter calling MdCL “the illest dude I have ever seen live”. Remixing everything from his own productions to club and soul classics, even the legends aren’t safe. De Clive-Lowe says, “I love taking something everyone knows, even say a Stevie Wonder joint, and giving it a completely different setting that no one would expect or imagine.”

- Dress code – Mask. Smart casual. Think Venice!

See you on the first day of winter (01/06)!

We promise to keep you warm!

Check us on youtube:

Humans have used masks for different purposes throughout time. One of the main reasons has been to create a different atmosphere in parties involving music, dance and art.

Knowing that the word Bossa was a typical slang originated in Brazil to describe anything that could be ‘cool’, we decided to put on a party to bring the cool attitude of Multicultural Sydney at its best. We are going to transform one of the best live music venues in Sydney (Blue Beat) into a ‘ludic’ night of music and dance.

Featuring Abuka an upcoming power trio that has been known all over Sydney by its delivery of funky infused grooves that allow our senses to experience different sounds and rhythms. In other words be prepared for a heavy dose of mix Brazilian rhythms with jazz and funk.

Alongside the terrific Abuka, Dj La Veneria and Dj Rapha (Vibez Brazil) we’ll keep you busy in the dance floor in a mix range of funky cheeky tunes and up-beat tropical sounds of Latin America.

Choose your mask, dust off your dancing shoes and be prepared for this unmissable and exotic night full of funky grooves! Damn!

Red Bull Beat Suite is set to smash every conceived musical boundary – creating an entirely original, never-before-heard musical exploration, mixing together the nation’s best beat makers, musicians from the Australian Youth Orchestra as well as special guest vocalists including US soul singer, Aloe Blacc who will all feature on the same stage for two shows only on Saturday 12th May, at the Melbourne Recital Centre.

This very special event will be an orchestral exploration of the last 20 years of electronic and beat music combining two diverse musical worlds, setting a musical precedent by bringing the contemporary and classical worlds together on the one stage for the very first time in Australia.

Fans can expect to hear Australia’s best beat makers including two turntablists, a 15 piece orchestra, bass player, percussionist plus the hottest guest vocalists to produce a show like never before. The show will feature the talent of Ladi6, DJ Perplex, Amin Payne, Scratch 22 and Galapagoose. This innovative musical mash up will be cast under the intrepid direction of Australia’s own maestro and composer, Tamil Rogeon, who is charged with conducting a bunch of people who quite frankly, don’t belong in the same room – let alone the same stage! Red Bull Beat Suite is the creation of curator and creative director of the event, Kano Hollamby.

Red Bull Beat Suite is a rare opportunity to push the envelope and drive forth innovation by fusing together cultures that would normally play in very different playgrounds. The event will provide opportunities for the young guns of classical music to work with those from a hip hop and electronic music background – an unexpected collaboration with mind-blowing results.

Utilising their own award winning 3d projection mapping technologies, Melbourne’s own and world renown ENESS studios will create a never before seen interactive visual display to accompany this cutting edge performance.

Red Bull Beat Suite will debut at the stunning and musically paramount Melbourne Recital Centre, which is excited to be part of this exciting fusion – be the first to witness this cutting edge musical experiment.

ABOUT THIS EVENT

Red Bull Beat Suite is a drawing together of cultures which is as ambitious as it is thrilling. Take the nation’s best beat makers, put them on stage with the Australian Youth Orchestra, throw in US soul singer and hip hop luminary Aloe Blacc plus special guest singers and musicians, and cast them under the intrepid direction of The Raah Project’s Tamil Rogeon.

Red Bull Beat Suite is homage to the last 20 years of urban beats and electronic music genres, told by Australia’s and the world’s most cutting edge musicians, producers and vocalists through a ‘mix tape’ of orchestra, turntables and live beats.

Adding to the experience, Melbourne’s own and world renown ENESS will create a never before seen interactive visual display, utilising their own award winning 3D projection mapping technologies.

DEEP HOUSE EVENT: CO-OP’s 3rd Birthday feat. San Soda + Bill Brewster

CO-OP PRESENTS SAN SODA (WE PLAY HOUSE / FCL – BERLIN) & BILL BREWSTER (DJHISTORY.COM – LONDON) AT ONE22 IN SYDNEY ON SATURDAY 19TH MAY FOR CO-OP’S THIRD BIRTHDAY, AS PART OF THEIR DEBUT TOURS OF AUSTRALIA

TICKETS ON SALE NOW FROM RESIDENTADVISOR.NET

http://www.residentadvisor.net/event.aspx?360294

According to commonly accepted knowledge, a three year old should be able to follow basic directions, sort objects by shape and colour, imitate the actions of adults and playmates, and express a wide range of emotions. Ah well, CO-OP’s always been something of a ‘special’ case.

Hard as it may be to believe, given our sluggish development, we are soon to celebrate our third birthday. The last two have seen the CO-Operative get loud and loose in fine style with our good friend Harri, however we’ve never been content to partake in any laurel sitting and so we’re doing things a bit differently to mark the occasion in 2012.

We’ve only engaged in a single headline show in the last twelve months for one reason or another, but it was a good one – Prosumer in late March. Good because of him, you and them (the venue, the staff, the other DJs et al), so we’re hoping that lightning can indeed strike twice as we host the forthcoming CO-OP birthday party at One22 on Saturday 19th May. The place is appropriately sized, appropriately late licensed and appropriately armed with an A-grade Klipsch sound-system, all of which makes it appropriate for another visit from us lot.

And so to the business of the musicism – amongst the aforementioned ‘lot’ will be a pair of international talents, both of whom will be shaking down exclusively for CO-OP in Sydney on their debut tours of Australia…

———————————–
SAN SODA (WE PLAY HOUSE / FCL – BERLIN)
———————————–

First up is a young man hailing from Belgium via Berlin – Nicolas Geysens AKA San Soda. Mainstay of the revered We Play House label and one half of production duo FCL with his friend, recording partner and WPH label owner Red D, San Soda’s DJing and production prowess have been in high demand across Europe and beyond over the last few years. Anyone who’s come across any of his mixes will know he effortlessly blends contemporary deep cuts with crate-dug joints from back-in-the-day to present a forward-thinking history of House that presses all the right buttons. With releases and remixes from his San Soda and FCL projects finding homes on leading labels including Freerange, Dessous, Delusions Of Grandeur and 20:20 Vision (who are soon to release the latter’s album), Mr Geysens is on fire in the booth and studio right now.

———————————–
BILL BREWSTER (DJHISTORY.COM – LONDON)
———————————–

Our second headliner is probably as well known as an author as he is a DJ, having co-scribed a pair of best selling books on the art and form of the disc jockey – Last Night A DJ Saved My Life and How To DJ Properly. Ladies and gentleman, Bill Brewster Esq. Whether he’s removing the roof from a club with his unique selection of deep and devastating ‘Ouse (he was one of Fabric’s first residents don’t you know), enchanting a backroom with a genre-bending set of Disco, Balearic, Rock and Hip Hop or playing perfectly judged chill-out tuneage by a pool in Ibiza, The Brewster is a man for all occasions. Allegedly, what he doesn’t know about DJing isn’t really worth knowing. A bloke of many talents, Bill also runs the highly regarded DJHistory.com website out of the UK, which has become THE go-to online destination for those with definite symptoms of dance music OCD. Likewise, his legendary Low Life parties (now in their 15th year, having started in NYC) continue to deliver substance and spectacle in equal measure every few months in London. Yes, he’s been a label head, yes, he’s produced records, yes, he’s got a family and a dog, but its as a DJ that he continues to inspire and practice what he writes/preaches most regularly and rapturously.

Support on the night will come, in some form, from the CO-OP DJs and possibly a couple of extra guest spinsters, and there may be a pleasant surprise or two still to be revealed for the assembled throng on 19th May if all goes to plan (i.e. we don’t oversleep and can remember our PIN number).

Resident Advisor, unsurprisingly, hold the keys to advance tickets to CO-OP’s third birthday uprising – show them what you’re made of.

Two’s company, three’s a crowd…

CO-OP.
