Boogie Dance Cafe

Fridays 11pm -12.30am

Presented by Brut 33 & Mikey Kennedy

Boogie Dance Cafe is a loose approximation of an over exuberance of musical love combined with an over indulgence of caffeine.

Brut33 mans the ones and twos (sugars), frothing up and over indulgence in coffee and dusty grooves.

A vinyl-only show, highlighting the records you find when pounding the pavement. Jazz, jazzfunk, boogie, disco, soul, afro – upwardly-downbeat & immodestly flamboyant.

From the makers of Paradise Lost & Spacepeoples, broadcasting since 2008. Sharing a passion for realness, radio and community.

Merchants of Sound

Saturdays 6.30 – 8pm

Slick sounds with an anything attitude for your Saturday evening with Phat Kat and Bully Dux.

Immersing into a deep platter of dusty rarities and classic treats, we sample sounds from all genres – roots, rock, world and music that has been inspired by them.

Phat Kat …

Phat Kat has been presenting on Eastside Radio since October 2009. Sharing ancient ideologies and ethos with her fellow merchants, her collection includes blues, old school rock and roll, world and soul/funk. She is an avid supporter of community radio with subscriber status held at fellow stations 2SER, FBi and marketing/sponsorship is her specialty at Eastside. Using the senses and her guiding muses, she keenly twirls her way through flamenco dance, Italian language and Greek cuisine.

Bully Dux …

Bully Dux is a local deejay. He welcomes playing random weddings, Bar Mitzfahs, Sunday breakfast slots at the local cafe and sweaty warehouses parties. He cringes at corporate gigs but plays them anyway. Being dearly attached to his 2 wheelers, Bully Dux is keen to pull out his traveling paintbrushes and paint more colour on empty objects.

He’s hosted and played on 2SER – Mophonics show and random blues and roots slot on Bondi FM.

DJ FRENZIE
Frenzie cut his teeth DJ’ing in Melbourne in the late 80′s, having grown up being inspired by the early cut and paste sounds of hip hop music. In the mid 90s he spent 5 years in Brisbane, and in that time managed to DJ regularly at pretty much every decent venue around town. Now days, Frenzie has settled down in Sydney, where once again he has played at every decent inner city venue at one time or another. In 2001, he secured a management position at Sydney’s most beloved club – The Globe, managing some of Sydney’s most beloved clubnight.

Frenzie has played at all major music festivals, featured on the 2001 Triple J ‘Turn Up Your Radio‘ tour with Endorphin and Groove Terminator, and has 15 years experience presenting programs on community radio around Australia.

DEEP HOUSE, DETROIT TECHNO: Anthony Shake Shakir – Travellers

Tickets $20+BF: http://www.residentadvisor.net/event.aspx?287280

Detroit producer Anthony “Shake” Shakir is one of the more under recognized, underappreciated names in American techno. A bedroom producer since 1981, Shake had an important role in helping shape the early Motor City sound associated with artists such as Juan Atkins/Model 500 and Derrick May. He worked with May and Carl Craig as a producer, writer, or engineer on several early tracks on Metroplex, and worked in management and A&R for the label (as well, he’s often joked, as being the janitor) during its formative years. His first solo material appeared on Virgin’s seminal Techno Sound of Detroit compilation, under the name Sequence 10. Known as something of a techno purist, Shake has distanced himself from the European scene many of his colleagues have turned to for support (this accounts somewhat for his continuing obscurity), and his music is stylistically closer to second wave artists such as Mike Banks and Claude Young – hard, stripped-down tracks which owe equally to techno, electro, hip-hop, and funk.

Shake’s visibility and reputation have risen in more recent years as a result of his Frictional and Puzzlebox labels, the latter of which he formed in 1996 with fellow Detroit electro/techno producer Keith Tucker (formerly of Aux 88). Releasing a series of records both solo and in combination (usually under the name Da Sampla), Shake and Tucker’s Puzzlebox has, along with Underground Resistance and Guidance, become one of the more coveted sources of straight-up, no-bones Detroit techno.

Thanks to Rush Hour Records – the “Shake” has had a new lease on life and with the amazing compliation – “Frictionalism” earlier in 2010, this sky rocketed Shakir back into the scene.

This is Anthony first time in Australia and we are very excited to be able to show case his talents. Anthony amazing production plus his amazing energy and DJ skills behind the decks will make this a very special night.

Along side Anthony we have Joe Stanley and Daniel Lupica.
